Wireless screen on your contact lenses

Posted by Mike on June 14th, 2007

Wireless screen in your contact lensesThe idea of having a monitor on your contact lenses seems pretty great, especially when we’re talking about a high resolution display (2560 x 1600 px ) equivalent to a 30 inch screen. I’m not sure if this would be even possible, as the human eye cannot physically focus on something situated so close to your iris. But, the idea seems pretty interesting.

The screen has a wireless power generator, small as a pager, that can be worn in your pocket. The device also acts as a video and audio wireless emitter, so you won’t have to carry too many things around. Two lenses could be worn on the same time, thus creating a 3D model image, that will be visible even when you close your eyes. Of course, if you want you can shut down the screens, in which case the lenses would act like some regular blind ones, allowing you to see beyond the virtual universe created by the display.

Even if the concept won’t be put in practice under this form, I’m sure technology would evolve to the point of allowing us experiences like the one mentioned by this concept.

  1. Surely a more sensible, and feasible, idea would be to build such a screen in to a normal pair of spectacles. This idea is only a few steps away from having a two way connection wired into the optical nerve, allowing the image that you see to be edited on the fly and information either added or subtracted. Imagine having the option to filter out all advertising, billboards, posters, the sides of busses. Or have beggars and tramps erased from your awareness. You could live in a world where you only see what you chose to see…
Sorry got a bit carried away there.

  2. Yeah, you could do that but i think it’s better to see the world as bad as it is. Becoming an idealist might get back to you :)

As for the glasses screen, i think this kind of things already exist, like the ones used to simulate virtual reality on some games… But having them on contact lenses would be way better ;)

  3. Couldn’t they also put sensors up around rooms so that if you were viewing an image in 3D it would react to the sensors so that it’s not wherever you look is a 3D object, but resting on ground.

Wireless power is also becoming real, along with Wireless information we could do some pretty neat stuff with this technology.

I do like the part about not seeing hobos.
