What’s the best thing Wordpress 2.3 brings us?
As you all know, today is the big day. Wordpress 2.3 is going to be officially launched, and all the Wordpress blogosphere should rejoice. Cause this new version brings lots of new cool stuff. I’m not here to discuss all of them, but only the ones i find important from my point of view. For a comprehensive list of the things Wordpress 2.3 brings, check out this article: 10 things you need to know about Wordpress 2.3
1. The most important news is the included Canonical Redirection. Google treats the www. and the non www. versions of a site as two completely different entities. And, if a blogger didn’t know to redirect one of them to another (and most bloggers have no idea how to do this), he would get his site eventually penalised by Google. Wordpress 2.3 cuts off this problem, by allowing you to select which of the two versions you want to keep, the other one automatically being redirected to it, from the Options > General page.
2. Customizable Dashboard. Most of us, bloggers, are pretty pissed we can’t display what we wont on the Dashboard page. No more, as the new version will allow a pluggable Dashboard.
3. A new tagging API. The new API effects tags and brings a couple of new tagging options, like get_tag_link() and get_tag_link(). The new feature will be able to import tags used by some of the most popular plugins, like Jerome’s Keywords and Ultimate Tag Warrior, or so they say, as some of the Beta testers for Wordpress 2.3 said this function does not work.

Wordpress 2.3 seems great, but don’t be too hasty in upgrading to it
That being said, i might add a little advice: Don’t be too hasty in upgrading to Wordpress 2.3. First of all, take a look at this blog maintenance procedure, and once you’ve done it, check out that all the plugins you use are compatible with the new version of Wordpress. Here’s a list that should help you.
