Strongest brands in the world

Posted by Mike on August 24th, 2007

Top brands in the worldWe all know what a brand is no? If not, check it out on out beloved wiki. Creating a successful and well known brand is the key to success in every business, regardless if we’re talking about online or offline. Speaking of brands, i just ran into this report by GfK Roper Reports, with the strongest brands in 2006 and 2007.

Here they are (after the jump):

2007

 1 Sony (Asia)
 2 Coca-Cola (U.S.)
 3 Nokia (Europe)
 4 Nestle (Europe)
 5 Pepsi (U.S.)
 6 Colgate (U.S.)
 7 McDonald’s (U.S.)
 8 Nike (U.S.)
 9 BMW (Europe)
10 Samsung (Asia)

 2006

 1 Coca-Cola (U.S.)
 2 Nokia (Europe)
 3 Colgate (U.S.)
 4 Sony (Asia)
 5 Philips (Europe)
 6 McDonald’s (U.S.)
 7 Pepsi (U.S.)
 8 Kodak (U.S.)
 9 Nike (U.S.)
10 Nestle (Europe)

I would have expected Coca-cola, McDonald’s and BMW here, although i don’t drink soda, don’t eat at fast foods and certainly don’t drive a BMW…, but Colgate? Had no idea they are so big…

It would be very interesting to find a similar study for the online brands exclusively. Which are the Worldwide Online Power Brands? Probably MySpace, Digg, Youtube, Google, Yahoo, MSN…

If you would ask me, my top 5 would be something like this:

1. Google (doh!)
2. Yahoo
3. Youtube (although it’s a part of Google now…)
4. Digg
5. Facebook (they’re on the wave)

Of course, this top is made without any scientific research or knowledge. So, what do you think? Care to share with us your Top 5 Online Brands list?

  1. Why is it that they only got nike in a clothing brand? :-(
Anyways, I agree with the TOP 5, they are the most used and popular brands in the whole world.

  2. Well, I’m sure Adidas is somewhere in the top 20 too. As for other brands, i guess they are not so popular or widely spread as those too. But hmmm, maybe H&M could be in too…
