Smaller but yet bigger: it’s the new iPod Shuffle 3G

Posted by Mike on March 11th, 2009

I’m only a fan of tiny screen-less MP3 players like the shuffle when riding the board. For those moments, i really enjoy the company of an iPod Shuffle. iPod Shuffle that has now reached a new generation, the third.

And that now comes with lots of changes. First of all, it looks different and doesn’t have any buttons on it anymore. Yes, it’s button-less :) Cause all the controls have been moved on the headphone’s wire, as you can see in the picture below.

Not sure if that’s a nice solution, it seems kind of inconvenient to access them this way, but.. Steve’s guys wanted their Shuffle to be smaller. And smaller it is, measuring just 45 x 17 x 8 mm and weighting 10 grams. I still believed the previous one was small enough.. this one is just loosing small (as in so small you can easily loose it) :P

The good news is that the new iPod Shuffle has increased memory: 4 GB. There are no versions with less or more memory available on the market, just the 4 GB one, coming in white or black. And it costs just $79. Cool.

If you’re not really satisfied with my description above (and you might not be), this video bellow will tell you a little more about the new Shuffle thingy. You’ll even find out about the new voice function it has. But just watch the video :P

That’s about it. It seems the guys from Apple did it this time: they brought a smaller device, doubled the storage capacity and didn’t increase the price. My only concerns are the on wire commands and battery life (Apple says it’s 10 hours, but in reality, that might not be enough for a full day of boarding…). I still like it though and can’t wait to get my hands on it.

  1. This new version of the ipod is one made for exactly what you said. As sort of a second ipod. You would have your main one, then a second one for boarding or lifting weights etc… Looks great and very cheap.

  2. I am sure the fourth generation of shuffle would be just small earbuds. Player can be in one of the buds.

I hate earbud cord based controls. I have used them on mobile phone handsfree and they are difficult to spot :P

I think they should have more colors for girls.

  3. Awesome ! i think they will release more colors as soon

  4. As for me, in our advertisement agency many people chose ipod. Mac, – what else?

  5. I agree that they need to come up with more colors. They can not deny the wemon that are going to be buying these. The size is crazy smaill too.

  6. Another great ipod, presently i am having apples neno ipod shuffle, earlier the sound quality was great but soon its sound got lower. I tried to find the solution but could not. Hope this new will work better.
