Permanent redirects have never been easier

Posted by Mike on November 25th, 2007

One of the many reasons i love Wordpress is because of the multitude of plugins developed for it. One of the latest I’ve used is the Permalinks migration plugin from Dean Lee (the one behind the FCK Editor for WP too). What does it do? Well, it allows you to easily change your blog’s permalinks structure in just seconds, redirecting the old format to the new one automatically. Thus you loose no links and everything stays as it was before from the SEO point of view.

Yesterday I’ve changed my permalink structure. I’ve downloaded the plugin, uploaded and activated it. You all should know how to do that. And then, you just have to go to Options > PermanlinkMigration and put in the field there the old link structure format. Than, go to Options>Permalinks and create the new one. Just press Update and… That’s it. You new link structure is set, the older one being redirected to the new.

This plugin is great, but… what if you’d like to change the link structure again in a couple of months? Well… Just don’t!. It’s best to get the proper link structure planned for the beginning. The Permalinks migration plugin from Dean Lee gives you one more chance. Beyond that… there’s always the .htaccess file for you to edit. That if you know how, of course…
