A smart solution for lowering bounce rates

A post written by Mike and published in Internet Marketing Online

Is this a good idea or what? It’s a well known fact that whenever you change a site from the ground, bounce rate will reach sky-high limits. Especially if you have lots of returning visitors who are used to find things in a certain position on the site. So, a solution is required in order to smooth the transition between the old site and the new one.

And there is one, but I didn’t find it used on too many sites: make a video that should be placed on key pages of your site and should explain how you changed stuff and why, and also how users can find the things they’re looking for.

This video should be embedded on your site in visible position and should be eye catching, so users will click it. For example, if you have an IT site, use a cute girl or something (geek girls are always catchy. look at Veronica Belmont or Marina Orlova ). If you’re a fashion site with lots of feminine visitors, use a well dressed boy or something. You’ll find a suitable solution.

Indexing tag pages or not?

A post written by Mike and published in Blogging on Wordpress

I’ve been playing with the subject of indexing tag pages in Wordpress for quite a while now. I have sites were i keep these pages in the indexes and pages where i don’t . The result vary from case to case though, so stating a rule for this subject is kind of difficult.

You might ask why am I even bothering with this problem. Well, let’s see why Tag pages are not worthwhile of being indexed:

  • they are just another navigation method on your site, meant to help visitors find posts on the subject they’re interested of.
  • they won’t rank. Unless you’re an authority, they won’t. I believe SE have some kind of trigger to distinguish and declassify tag pages, and this is especially true foo Google.com . On regional though, clever done tag pages might rank well.
  • they create duplicate content: a tag page is usually similar to the category page so you have the same content as in categories, just displayed in a somewhat different order
  • they create almost empty pages, unless you have a very tight tagging system. And this will happen every time you’ll use a new tag that hasn’t been used before on your site.
  • sometimes, they create useless pages

A post written by Mike and published in Gadgets and gizmos

Yea, there’s another one in town. Another stylish laptop that will attack the position of MacBook Air on the notebooks segment. And it’s called Adamo, from Dell.

Dell Adamo laptop

We’re not going to get into details with this one, but it was well worth mentioning. On a first look, this laptop looks quite good, with a very nice polished full aluminium body, LED illuminated keyboard and a battery life of above 5 hours. Definitely a laptop for those looking to impress. Oh, and it will have a price tag above 2000$ , in US . Auch.

Iphone Nano and a Netbook: Apple’s next success stories?

A post written by Mike and published in Away from the PC

Almost every product Apple launches is a success story. Although it does not reach market domination worldwide, it really owns in the US and brings Apple lots of lots of funds in their pockets. That was the case for the iPhone, iMac, Apple Mini, iPod Touch, etc. All good products (not extraordinary though), based on looks and simplicity. But all overpriced and with a coupe of important lacks in features.

This year, rumours say Apple will launch the iPhone Nano and a small laptop that would enter the netbooks market. Let’s see what we already know about these two.

First of all, the iPhone Nano will be a smaller version of the iPhone, as the name suggests. How small though? It is said it will only be as big as the current iPhone’s screen, as you can see in the picture bellow. That means it would have a weird height/width proportion. Is it just me, or does it look too wide? I will prefer something slimmer. Perhaps a little bit taller, but way less wider. Not sure about the price, but you can always get refurbished ipods for better prices .

Best portable GPS systems and units – reviews and prices

A post written by Mike and published in Gadgets and gizmos

When traveling a lot, a GPS unit is a must have. That if you don’t want to get lost, of course. And the best GPS units are the portable ones, the ones that come with a battery and can be easily carried around with you, if needed.

Nowadays, these portable GPS units can also be used in vehicles, have big screen and tons of functions and options. That if we’re talking about dedicated portable devices, cause there are also handheld gadgets with GPS receivers inside (all the modern PDA’s and smart phones can be included in here).

But today, we’re only going to speak about the options you have when trying to buy a portable dedicated GPS unit. Below are some of the best models on the market. But first, let’s see what are the things to look for in a GPS device:

How to find Sony Vaio Drivers ?

A post written by Mike and published in Rummaging the WWW

I love Sony Vaio laptops. They all look great and are marvelous pieces of technology. They cost a lot too, but that’s another story :P

However, there’s a bigger problem than this one: Sony delivers a CD with Sony Vaio drivers for their laptops only for an extra $64.99. That’s quite a lot for something that most of the producers offer for free. But, if you might have to reinstall your operating system on your laptop, you’ll definitely need those drivers. So, let’s see where you could find them online and preferably for free.

Smaller but yet bigger: it’s the new iPod Shuffle 3G

A post written by Mike and published in Gadgets and gizmos

I’m only a fan of tiny screen-less MP3 players like the shuffle when riding the board. For those moments, i really enjoy the company of an iPod Shuffle. iPod Shuffle that has now reached a new generation, the third.

And that now comes with lots of changes. First of all, it looks different and doesn’t have any buttons on it anymore. Yes, it’s button-less :) Cause all the controls have been moved on the headphone’s wire, as you can see in the picture below.

How far is this future from us?

A post written by Mike and published in Away from the PC

If you showed someone from the early 90’s an iPhone or the interactive Microsoft Surface panel, they would have surely said "WOW!". Cause that’s what we’re saying when showed the new Microsoft clip that offers a small glimpse at the future.

The clip is bellow, just have a look.

All the things here remind me a little bit of Stargate Atlantis: the technology is so futuristic. But in 10-20 years time we will surelly have such devices and use them in our daily activities. Don’t you think so?
