Making money online with Kontera
I’m experimenting these days with Kontera ContentLink. What ’s that? Well, a contextual advertising service that provides ads relevant to the content on a page.
Can i use it with AdSense?
Yes, you can. Although they are both contextual services, Kontera ContentLink is different than AdSense. It does not display an ad on a specific region of the site, it highlights phrases inside the text as a double-underlined link. Whenever your mouse will get over that link, an in page bubble pop-up will emerge, showing the ad. Clicking this bubble will take the user to the advertised page.
Kontera ContentLink – the good parts
For starters, this service is very, but i mean very, easy to install. All you have to do is copy the code provided (a JS) in your site’s footer, just before the </body> tag, and that’s it. You can set the colours of the ads and other minor things from the code.
Kontera claims that you get a higher eCPM and higher click rates than you would get with other similar services. We’ll just have to wait and see. But from what I’ve read on the Internet, it seems they might be right. I still prefer affiliates though.
Although, Kontera seems to have a pretty solid Client support department. But i got used to this aspect already when working with big US companies.
Kontera ContentLink – what you don’t want to hear
In order to be accepted by Kontera ContentLink, you’ll have to benefit from a significant number of readers. I’ve tried enrolling the service a couple of months before but i got rejected. They have a requirement of 500.000 page views per month in order to subscribe, but i got in with around 100.000 nonetheless. So i guess they make exceptions for good smaller sites. The idea is that the more visitors you have, the chances of someone clicking the ads increase. Thus the income.
The biggest problem of Kontera might be the in page pop-up bubbles ad displaying system. Many people might consider this intrusive and annoying, and i must admit i am one of those… Also, they seem to increase the site’s loading time… That’s why Kontera ContentLink is on probation for a short period here on MQ. We’ll see if it will be kept ON in the long run.

Also, Al from SMM pointed out a couple of weeks ago this paragraph from Kontera’s TOS: " Exclusivity. On all Publisher Websites, Publisher will ensure that Kontera is the exclusive source of any services that are similar to the ContentLink Service for the term of this Agreement. " I don’t use any other similar services, but if it’s true (I’ve seen nothing about this subject in their FAQ), might be a problem for big players…
Go subscribe to Kontera!
All these being said, what are you waiting for? If you have a quality content site written in English with decent traffic, go subscribe to Kontera. Especially now, when they are offering a 25$ bonus for new subscribers, if they reach at least 50K impressions in the first month.
