Logitech mice – backstage images

A post written by Mike and published in Gadgets and gizmos

Today Logitech announced they’ve sold their 1.000.000.000 mouse. Yes, one bilion that is. From the early Logitech P4 to the revolutionary Logitech MX Air and diNovo MiniT, this company has been a pioneer and a leader in this multi billion industry that makes one of the most important computer accessories: the mouse.

There were so many successful mouses made by Logitech that everyone knows, so there’s no point in talking about them anymore. But, there are some of them that didn’t left the labs, that remained closed forever in Logitech’s Area 51. And you can find a couple of things about them bellow.

The joystick mouse - they designed a mouse that had a joystick integrated on it, besides the classic scroll wheel. It doesn’t seem so ergonomic and also there were too few applications for such a gadget. Picture below.

 The joystick mouse

Laser pointer mouse – a mouse with an integrated laser pointing device might be just what you need for a meeting when you have to make presentations with the help of a laptop. But Logitech thought to few people would like such a gadget and decided to drop it.

The mouse with 2 sensors – hmmm, how about a mouse that has two sensors, so you can rotate and zoom in the same time… Hmmm, too confusing. Better not!

The scrolling mouse – they launched a mouse with two scrolls but they also planed one with 3 wheels. Several designs actually. But come one, one wheel is more than enough guys.

The hand cooling mouse – yeah, they had a plan to launch a mouse with an integrated hand cooling devices. That meant no more sweaty hands… But… who has sweaty hand after all? I admit that i would have likes to see this baby in action too. But they cancelled it too.

That’s about it. There were other models too that didn’t see the lights, but the ones above are my favourites. What do you think about?

  1. Some of the models really look brilliant and also appear great on the utility front. But, not really good on the wallet.

  2. “The Logitech MX Air” – The best!

  3. i agree with you; that hand-cooling mouse seems like the only one of those mice (mouses?) that i would actually want. kind of like the hand cooler at the bowling alley….for those of us that spend a lot of time at the computer it seems like it would be nice.
    interesting post.

  4. Touche Ernie, touche :P
