Ipod touch screen problem - myth or reality?

Posted by Mike on October 10th, 2007

I really like the new IPod touch gadget. But yet again, i like the iPhone too, although i didn’t have the chance to see any of them in action. Technology comes late in this part of the world…

I was thinking about buying an iPod Touch from the states. For 300$ + shipping seems like a really good deal. But, there’s the screen problem I’ve been reading on a couple of sites.

I’m wondering if there really is such a big difference between the screen of the iPod Touch and the screen of the iPhone. From this clips on Gizmodo, i really can’t see any difference. Can you? Also, even though most of the big sites and publications claim that this iPod touch screen problem is for real, there are others, like PC Mag for example, that reported otherwise.

Ipod Touch Screen Problem

That’s why I’m asking you if you ever saw an iPod Touch screen in action. Can you please tell me what do you think about it’s screen quality, compared to the one of the iPhone’s?

If you’re asking why don’t i buy the iPhone, it’s simple: I can only use it decoded in my country. And also, i consider it to be too bulky for a Phone. That’s it.

So, please help me clear up if this iPod touch screen problem is a myth or reality. Waiting for your comments.

  1. I’d also like to know the answer to this, I’ll look in the comments section to see if anyone answers it.

  2. My advise is, give it another two or three weeks and then get an iPod touch. I had an early week 37 touch and it was amazing, bright vibrant screen, awesome UI, but it did suffer from the negative black issue (only a problem when watching really dark video scene’s).

When I took my touch back to the Apple Store in the UK I was surprised to see that every iPod touch that they had on show had the same problem, so when Apple introduced a firmware update I wasn’t too surprised and word is that largely the update has worked and reduced this issue.

So why wait a few more weeks… easy, as with all new products their are bound to be these early upsets, if you are going to ship one of these fella’s half way around the world, you want a good one!!.

Forget the iPhone, it is a different device and I promise you won’t be disappointed with you iPod touch.

  3. I bought the iPod Touch 16Gb, and it’s great… there are some scenes in some movies where it is really dark and it is a little hard to see, but nothing on mine like what people are talking about. The video quality is great in my opinion. And as for the memory capacity, if you have to have all of your library and movies with you at all times, then get a classic, as for me, I carry 6 movies and 1500 songs and a few hundred pictures and I love it. I prefer the smaller size and having solid state memory with no moving parts over having 160Gb and it being alot more shock sensitive. Not to mention the battery life on this thing is fantastic! So I hope this helps some of you who are thinking of buying one. In fact, my only gripe is that they don’t have many cases for it available yet. I bought a decend iPhone case to cover my until Griffin releases the case that I want.

    Enjoy!!

  4. i have the i touch no problems with the screen that i seen

  5. I have the ipod touch and my cousin has the iphone.. I was amazed by the iphone’s quality when i got to use and and I was just as amazed with my ipod touch. There seems to be no difference between the two and after reading about the problems with the touch i thought i just got lucky with a good one. hope this helps

  6. it was real. I compared week models side by side and it was amazing to see the difference. Just goes to show that you shouldnt buy any product like this as soon as it comes out. First generation apple products are buggy, and thats the price you pay for being the first one on the block with the device. Like one poster said, I would wait a good bit before buying one. The week 38 ipods and on had no real issues, but week 37’s were craptastic.

  7. i bought a 16gig ipod and the screen is great. i haven’t held it next to an iphone screen but as far as i can tell its fine. when watching a dark scene in a movie, the black is very black when you look at it straight but from an angle it begins to lighten but that hasn’t caused me any problems

  8. Heya

    first time owner here,from Singapore..

Bought my first apple product and will be buyin an Imac soon..

NO REGRETS for the Ipod touch..

I have not faced any problem at all with the ipod touch..
the screen is not quirky,it is smooth and all.

I expect those who have the problem may be due to the trasparent cover for their screen.
But as an Apple reseller told me,when the Ipod touch comes in DONT REMOVE the original screen cover.

Just remove the cover wrapping the body but leave the provided screen protector in place..

  9. I’ve had an ipod touch for 2 months now and no problems with my screen yet. But thanx for the info.
