Yahoo is better than Google
You all know Google is the most known search engine out there, but that doesn’t actually mean it’s also the best.
According to the latest studies, Google had like 67% of the web search volume in the US (has like 95% in my country), with Yahoo coming on second with only 20%. So, you might be tempted to believe Google is the best search engine out there. No, it’s just the most popular, cause in terms of effectiveness, the positions are a little different.
Google leads on the number of searches
Effectiveness is measured in "search fulfilment", or how many of the searches got a good result, by reporting the number of fulfilled searches (that resulted in a referral) to the number of total searches. So, as you can see in the chart bellow, Yahoo leads with around 75% effective searches, with Google on second (65%) and MSN third (59%). This means Yahoo is more effective in getting the users what they need? So it seems, but in the end it’s still Google the one delivering the most referrals out there.
But Yahoo is better at search effectiveness
The reality is a lot more complicated than you can see in these two charts. Even tough search fulfilment is better on Yahoo, Google is still the best known search engine out there and nobody can deny this. And I’m sure the next developments in the Google ranking algorithm will take care of this fulfillment problem too. My belief is that Google will eventually provide personalised results, accordingly to the sites you regularly visit and to your preferences. And that should definitely increase the percentage of satisfied users.

Well, maybe you are right, but I admit that I use Google for most of my searches. I’m used to it and it becomes a reflex searching with Google
Yes Diana. I use Google too most of the time. But i use Yahoo too, for specific web analysis commands
But like i said, I’m a freak here in my country. For most people, the only way of finding something on the Internet is Google. GG Larry and Sergei 
i am doing a project in phisicl science. the topic is which is better yahoo or google? this helped me a lot and i understand and believe what you just said. i for one use yahoo b/c thats the first page its on and i always use its images b/c i can just type in my pages i wan to go on. but i do believe in what you are saying. i hope to keep posted over the years of this. thanks a lot.
