How much till you can start thinking about monetizing?

On my ventures on my favourite forum, DP, I tend to find a lot of topics where people are concerned about how much money their blog makes. Or actually how much it doesn’t. So, I’ve been asking myself this question: "How much till you can start thinking about monetizing?".

Many people start sites/blogs with only one thought on their mind: making big bucks very fast. They put up together a site, some content and a lot of Ads. That’s how MFAs are born. Of course, in a couple of weeks or at best months, they give up, cause things aren’t going as they expected. So, let’s say something clear :"It’s hard to get a good site". It takes a lot of work, dedication, time and again work. And don’t expect to pay off in the near future, cause it won’t. But, after a year or two, if you have done your job well, the results will start appearing.

And now back to the main question. It’s hard to earn something from nothing, so don’t think about money until you get a community. In order to succeed, your site would need traffic and dedicated readers. This can be achieved trough unique and quality content of course, but a decent clean and easy to read design is also crucial.

Stuffing your site with ads will drive people away asap, and that’s exactly what you should avoid. So don’t do it. I’m not saying that you should put no ads from the beginning, though this could be an idea too, but keep their numbers very low (1 or 2 at most).

If you were expecting for numbers, i can’t give you that. I can’t say that once you have 1000 or 5000 or more unique visitors a day you could begin thinking about monetizing your site, because these numbers depend on each site’s target and domain. But i can give you a piece of advice: "Just don’t think about monetizing". Just do your articles, and if they are quality stuff, people would come to your site, and the higher their numbers, the higher the revenues.

As long as your traffic grows up, you’re on the good road

So, in the end, things are pretty simple. How much till you can start thinking about monetizing? Too much…
