Holly guacamole. 100 mil $ for a skull?

A post written by Mike and published in Rummaging the WWW

100 mil $ for a skullThanks to the guys on Core77 i found the most expensive skull in the world. It didn’t belong to any famous Egyptian pharaoh and it’s not old even very old. So what’s the catch? Well, we’re talking about a 19th century skull plated in platinum and encrusted with 8601 diamonds, weighting over 1100 carats all together. This work of art (or so they say?!?), is the most eccentric design of Damien Hirst, the famous British artists, and bares the name "For the Love of God".

For the Love of God
For the love of God might be the most expensive contemporary piece of art ever sold

I can say that the names suites perfectly to the product, as that would be everyone’s first thought when told its price, a mere 100 mil bucks. If it will be sold, the skull would become the most expensive contemporary artwork piece ever. That’s unlikely, but who knows. For now, "For the Love of God" can be admired at the "White Cube" exhibition in London, between June 1 – July 7.

An online gallery is also available, and from what i can see there are some cheaper replicas waiting to be sold too, like " For the Love of God, Laugh " (10.000 pounds – Silkscreen print on paper with glazes and diamond dust, limited 250 pieces edition ) and "For the Love of God, Pray" (5.000 pounds – Silkscreen print on paper with glazes, limited 750 pieces edition ). But nothing can be compared with the original masterpiece…
