That’s what i would want from the iPhone 2.0!

Posted by Mike in Gadgets and gizmos on August 29th, 2007

Brix Concept phoneBrix is just a concept, but one of the best I’ve ever seen so far.

With the black stylish coating and big touchscreen on the front face, the Brix reminds me a little of the Apple iPhone, but thanks to its capabilities, this phone is more like an iPhone 2.0. Let’s just see.

A big quality screen covers the entire front face. You won’t get any buttons, speakers or decorations here, just the touch screen. And you’ll see why pretty soon. Thanks to this display you can access all the main functions of the phone: calling, personal organizer, messaging, Internet, gaming and Multimedia. Definitely multimedia.

As the front face is covered entirely by a screen, what do you think happens when you put together two Brixs? You’re right, the screen expands on both of them. That way, you may end up with a huge touchscreen, by connecting multiple phones, ideal for watching TV, movies, or playing some great interactive games with your friends. A temporary virtual shared folder is created to merge content between the devices until they’re disconnected or one device can be designated as the media hub and interface.

The number of ways in which you can combine the Brixs is limitless. Just from the pictures, you can see how the Brix can be a TV, with an extra unit used as a command center, or for displaying the score on the soccer game you’re watching at.

Just imagine what you can do with this concept. GPS, television, WEB, Video, all of these would be a finger’s touch away. Also, it would make you a more sociable human being, cause you’ll always want to hang out with your friends, to unite your Brix Power.

Unlike other concepts, this one has the advantage of being relatively simple. No fancy equipment or technology, that’s why we might end up seeing something it in the near future. Apple, listen to me. I would love your next iPhone 2.0 to be like this Brix!!!

What do you think?

  1. brilliant idea. if they come out, i’ll buy a dozen :D

  2. Sounds kinda impractical. If the point of a Brix is portable communication/media, why do you want to carry more than 1 on your belt?

  3. I thought of that too. I don’t think the idea is to carry more than one around. You just have one, and you’re friends have others. When you meet, you connect them and you get the screen. That’s it…

  4. Interesting concept…looks like it would work, but you’d have to probably have the money to throw down for the phone and the service, not to mention wealthy enough friends for them to buy one and buy the service, too. Still, I like the idea. Kudos.

  5. completely pointless . . .

  6. The I-phone is not the best, compare it with the Nokia n91 and you would see ^^
But the Brix is the best !!!!!^^

  7. OK, how to be sociable and watch football on a big screen - go to pub with mates, buy beer and watch football on the big screen tv they will inevitably have in the pub. Use money saved from not buying 3 phones to pay for beer. What’s up with that?

  8. I’m starting to feel a little bit old here, ’cause I can’t get over the fact that it probably will be useless to use as a phone.

Even if the mic/speaker works, you still have the problem of leaving imprints of your cheek on the phone. It’s hard enough to use the regular screens today after having used the phone a bit, imagine trying to keep it clean when it’s a touch-screen.

Naa, I prefer a simple phone, and then I just use whatever mate I’m with’s TV.

  9. The world is going to bluetooth or earbuds and you can’t even talk in your car in most European Countries. So you wouldn’t be holding it to your cheek anyway. (You must be getting old there) The Brix and Surface are just more reasons that I would like to go to sleep for 5 years and just see what technology has done.

  10. This only really becomes an active selling point if it sits on every other phones functions. As a main feature it’s just shit.

Convincing 10 best friends (as is necessary for example pic) to have identical phones on expensive tariffs just so they can watch a still small shitty disjointed screen (they couldn’t sit close enough together to see the bloody screen) is quite a challenge. Advancing media interaction is surely about moving towards sharing info not limited interest visual gimmickry.

If a single unit doubled as a projector however, as I first imagined with the mock up pic… now that would be a different kettle of fish.

  11. Let’s hope that this remains a concept and does not really come to be true. This doesn’t really seem to be much of an advancement.

  12. WHAT THE HELL IS THE MATTER WITH ALL OF YOU PEOPLE?? i would definitely buy it, not to connect it to other phones, but for all the features it’s got, and if my friend happens to buy one, then.. HELL, why not connect? It’ll be awesome, it’s a great idea, and you don’ really have to buy it, no one is forcing it on you!!

“Let’s hope that this remains a concept and does not really come to be true. This doesn’t really seem to be much of an advancement.”

Seriously, dude, why the hell not, YOU DON’T HAVE TO BUY IT!! Other people might like it, if you don’t, well.. IT’S not the end of the world, you’re not the only one living in this world, and and this world sure as hell DOESN’T revolve around YOU!

  13. This has got to be some sort of joke. I mean really. Why would a sane marketing firm name a product after what happens to it the first time something goes seriously wrong with it?

I’m sure you’ve all heard of expensive devices getting bricked, or becoming bricks.

Unless we’re having a lack of foresight rivaled only by the Mexican release of the Chevy Nova, this is a big hoax.

  14. People, cool down, escpecially Josef. Don’t take these comments to serious, everybody should express their thoughts.

I think the idea of the bricks is really unique. But what does it have to do with an iPhone? And I agree, it will be quite awkward to carry around more than one!

  15. I love the concept, but it will rely on a lot of hype and another usp to be successful.

I’d need to know that a lot of my friends would buy one of these so we could (very occasionally) make a screen. For that they’d need to have another function that was appealing enough to buy it regardless of this gimicy capability.

One solution I would like to see would be to reduce the functionality of the phone and split it between identical units: have one phone that is a phone and browser, one that is an MP3 player and video player, one that is a calendar and diary, one that is a camera and camcorder and so on. I’m sure there are some people out there who have had the frustrating situation of trying to navigate through phone menus to access a slow and low quality camera, just to miss the moment they were trying to capture. Separate units could reduce the cost of the initial hand set and allow an increased quality of its functional component and give better user interfaces.

I’d personally get a phone, MP3 player and camera. I’d end up with a 3 slab screen if I took all with me to one place, allowing me to browse the internet on a large slab and watch large movies. Due to its component based nature, speakers, extra batteries, or other such accessories could be added as desired. After a few ‘brixs’, I’m sure I’d want to build up my set and ‘catch em all’.

Aside from that though, cool idea, I want one

  16. so you can share documents and stuff like music just by conecting one brix to another…..
pretty cool, so if i like a serten song on a freinds mp3 player he can just give it to me there and then, now that is cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. …and why would I want to spend 400 x however many devices to carry around?

Seems ridiculous. It’s much easier to carry a phone. If you want a TV in 6 parts in your bag, just bring your a nice laptop?

At home, why take time to build my TV, when I can just keep using my phone to take phone calls while watching a real TV?

    I mean THINK about it…

  18. Wow! I want a 20 of those! xD
    BTW nice post!Keep them comin’

  19. Cool:-)

  20. Yeah it is true sometimes you have too much stuff to carry. A laptop and my phone is all i need :p
