Remove category from base link on WP

If you’re planning on using your categories pages in your blog for something and you don’t just cut them off from being indexed from robots, you might need this tip.

You know that the category pages look something like this:

www.yoursite.com/category/category-name/

The problem is that /category/ middle element that disappears in the posts links structure and can have a bad influence on juice spreading inside your site. That’s why it should be great if you could just remove that element, right?

How to write a popular post every day?

Every now and then you manage to get those posts on your blog that are really successful. You just make the post, press publish, and a couple of hours later when you come back to check your stats, you notice a massive amount of links, comments and new visitors. That’s like wow! But, can you make this happen everyday? Well, i for one can’t.

Most of my popular stories are thought to be popular. And how can i define popular? Well, let’s see:

  • you get lots of direct visitors to the post
  • other people write about your post
  • you get mentioned on social networks like Digg, Stumble, Reddit, all of them bringing some additional traffic
  • on the long run, you get more subscribers and manage to rank well in SEs for some terms in that post

But, how can you make sure your post will get all of these? Well, you can’t. But at least you can try doing some of the things listed bellow, that will not bring you to certain success, but will ease the way to it. Because i believe there’s also some luck involved on the formula.

Top Digg users domination at an end

I’ve written a couple of weeks ago an article about how to become a Digg Poweruser. All those tips still work, but now things have changed a little, as the new Digg algorithm came into equation.

Digg’s top users were the ones hit. Seems that their domination over the stories submitted on Digg came at an end, as the new algorithm wants to ensure that every person has a good chance of getting its submission on the first page, regardless of the number of friends he has, the number of popular stories submitted and so on. Since the beginning of Digg back in 2005, there have been many algorithm changes, trying to beat all those who intended to cheat Digg.
