Backup your projects on a monthly basis – just a reminder
This is just a reminder for you (and for me) that you should make a habit of backing up your blog (and all your projects actually) monthly. Also, try to keep all the backups at least 1 year old. Storage drives are so cheap right now that you can easily do that, unless you have gigantic projects. But if you do, that means you earn enough to afford multiple backup methods, right?
Anyway, you should do that in order to protect your work. Because nowadays the number of attacks on sites is increasing exponentially. Especially if your project becomes big, there will be many trying to hurt it. And there’s a big chance they will succeed eventually, no matter how secure your server/code is. Thus, backup as often as you can. By doing a full backup, whenever something happens, you can just put the backup up and restore everything in just minutes.
I’m writing this because this site got hacked and injected with a JS in May. I used the .snapshot facility from my hosting (details about .snapshot) and restored everything. Unfortunately, i didn’t notice at the time that not all of my pictures we’re backed up. But I just found out today that most of the pictures from 2008 and part of 2007 are missing. And, since i have the very bad habit of forgetting to backup everything (i backup the files, but not the pictures), i might have lost them for good. Hopefully i do have something on my other computer. Hopefully. Still, stupid stupid me.
That’s why be careful and backup everything, or else… you might end up like me. Epic fail
