2005 = 2007 = 5%

The title is kind of ambiguous, i agree. But it’s true and yet surprising in the same time.

Back in 2005, 5% of the Internet surfers used RSS to read and organize their content sites easier. Two years later, in 2007, the percentage of RSS users is almost the same. The volume has grown of course, but the percentage is still almost unchanged. Hmmm…

I for one have been using RSS for years. I’m trying to popularize the RSS concept on every site i work on in my country, where Internet is still light years away from what’s happening in the US, but too few people tend to understand and use it. But i have never thought the situation worldwide looks like that. It seems that around 95% of the Internet users have no idea what RSS is and what advantages it brings.

What can we do in order to change that? Well, I’ve joined the RSS Awareness campaign Daniel is planning for May 1st. I advice you to do the same.

On the other hand, that makes me rethink the entire concept of content subscribing. Hmmm, it would be interesting to see a country statistics with how many people use RSS in the big markets, like US, UK, DE, etc. And also email subscribing. Does anyone know where could i find something like this?

  1. I know these statistics too, but I’m still shocked by them.

    I use RSS extensively. It saves so much time.

    I’ll check out the RSS Awareness campaign. Then again, do I want the email subscribers or the RSS subscribers…?
